Hello,
My name is Hobert (Bert) Victor Young and I am a 1964 graduate of HHS.
I was contacted about our 50th reunion and learned of the wall unit you put together with
Joe DeFalco's help.

It wasn't until I read your Introduction that I learned that Joe had become principal, and had passed away.

I was one of the Emerson guys (like Joe) and we were on the wrestling team together. Joe was two years ahead of me and was one of those guys who people really looked up to. I had enormous respect for him.

My military service started with the Marine Corps: 29 July 64-01 Dec 72, and included two tours in Vietnam. I enlisted as a Private and finished as a First Lieutenant (Infantry).

In 1991, I attempted to go back into the Marine Corps, but was told I was too old. The Army thought differently and I was allowed to enlist as a Sergeant. After a couple of years I was appointed a Warrant Officer and retired as a CWO-4.

Army service was from 03 Oct 91 - 01 Dec 2006.

My ribbons and decorations are mostly of the 'Service' variety ("I was there"); with the exception of the Purple Heart. A minor distinction is my National Defense Service Medal. Originally awarded for service during Vietnam, I was also awarded two stars to wear on it. One for Operation Iraqi Freedom and one for Operation Enduring Freedom.

If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact me.

Regards,
H. Victor Young
